We hope you all had a great holiday! We sure did. Especially Sadie, of course. She was spoiled as usual, especially from our awesome Secret Santa! Since we had so much fun with the exchange last year, we signed up for it again this year (thanks to Kat from Indignant Corgi for keeping it going!!).

Sadie was SUPER excited when we got our Secret Santa package in the mail. For a little while, it was the only thing under our tree, so Sadie took her guarding responsibilities VERY seriously:

So the funny thing is, our Secret Santa turned out to be who we bought gifts for last year!!! Remember little Milo? Well, he's a big boy now, and he and his mom Lisa sent us some awesome goodies :)

Hitting the "Paws" Button

Hey there...you have probably noticed that we have been MIA lately. And we apologize! Things have been pretty hectic around here (with work, school, and freelance work), so I haven't had much time to update or even read anyone's blogs :( And Sadie has been displeased with me as well, since all this work means less cuddle time! I've been getting a lot of dirty looks from her lately lol.

I just wanted to make a quick post to say that I am taking a mini-break from blogging for now until things die down a little. We hope you don't mind, and that you'll still be here when we get back! I'll still try to post now and then on Sadie's Facebook page, but consider this the last official post for a while.

I hope everyone is doing well! Hopefully we will be back here sooner rather than later :)

Chillin' Bonz Recipes -- Finally!

Ok, I know I've been promising to post these, ever since I posted about Chillin' Bonz a million years ago....Sorry about the delay, but here are all the recipes that came with the molds. Some people mentioned theirs didn't come with recipes, and the website doesn't work anymore unfortunately. You could make these without the official Chillin' Bonz molds; just use ice cube trays or those popsicle trays they sell! Sadie just LOVES these. We've made both of the peanut butter ones (since that's her absolute favorite thing EVER)! I am lazy, so I just took pics of the recipes haha. Hope that works for you all :)

The UPS Man Spoiled Sadie

I posted before about how our UPS man brings treats to all the dogs in the neighborhood, Sadie included. But his dedication to doing so has only increased lately, as have the amount of treats he leaves! I've been home the past few times he has come by, so I get to see Sadie's reaction. The second she hears that truck come to a halt outside, she goes ballistic! She tries to do everything in her power to get outside, because she knows treats are coming!!!!

I basically have to hold her when he comes to the door, or else she would probably maul him for those Milkbones lol. Sadie is also way too smart. The other day, I heard the UPS man stopping outside our house. We didn't have a package though; he was just coming to give Sadie cookies. And she certainly knew it! I picked her up as I opened the door, and he dropped three cookies at my feet for her. She was squirming like crazy to get to them. I put her down and quickly picked up two of the three cookies to save for later. Sadie inhaled the third cookie and looked up at me, knowing I had more. I put them on the kitchen table and went about with the rest of my morning routine.

I was sitting at the table a little while later, eating something, so Sadie was naturally staring me down, waiting for some of whatever I was eating. After I finished eating though, I see Sadie stick her nose up high in the air, and she just starts sniffing. She caught the scent of those cookies from earlier and she knew they were on the table. Much to her dismay though, she could not see them (damn those short corgi legs!). So what does she do? Jumps halfway up on the chair and rests her head on the table to confirm their location on the table. "Yup! They're there! I knew it!!!!" So clearly because that was so freaking cute, I gave her another cookie haha. Smart dog.

What's even more amusing about this new UPS routine is that when it's not the usual delivery driver (which it hasn't been this week), Sadie is beside herself when this new person comes to the door WITHOUT cookies. I mean, how dare he! We were going for a walk the other night and up the street comes the UPS truck. Sadie FLIPPED OUT. She was jumping around, wagging her nub, and barking. It was like she was like "Heyyyyy! Remember me!!! You give me cookies!!!" Then this poor man, who is not the usual driver, gets out of the truck and looks at Sadie confused. He probably thought Sadie wanted to attack him. It was super fun trying to get her to continue to walk down the block while that truck sat there, too!

While I think it's awesome that our usual driver gives out treats to the doggies and genuinely loves them all, I do feel bad for the substitute drivers! It's just too funny that Sadie knows what the sound of that truck stopping means!

A Lesson in "Read the Fine Print"

The other day, I was scrolling through my Facebook feed, when I saw this:

I immediately stopped because clearly I knew that face! I was very confused...I follow the ASPCA on Facebook, but why was Sadie's face being used?? I clicked on the link, which brought me to this page:

Well there she is again!!! At this point, I was a bit freaked out. Then I clicked on the main page...

Holy crap!!! I linked to the original post on Facebook, saying I was confused as to why Sadie was on the page, but it was also pretty cool that she was all over their site. Some friends replied, mentioning it was probably because I entered her picture in a contest...And sure enough, when I went back to look at the "fine print" on that contest, it said:

"By submitting your text/photo in this contest, you give the ASPCA an irrevocable, perpetual royalty-free right to use your name/text/photo for any purposes to promote the ASPCA’s mission of providing effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States."

Well then...I guess I should have read that. It's possible I DID read that, but didn't think much of it. After I figured this all out, I became less freaked out by it all and more flattered that they actually selected my picture, and that Sadie was used because she looked happy! If my baby's face can help raise money for animals in need, then I'm certainly ok with this. But I need to be sure to read all the fine print before entering her in contests!!! Haha. My little girl is famous!!!! :)

Rise and Shine, Mama!!!!

When I first adopted Sadie, she did not understand what sleeping in meant. This was a problem for someone like me, who is not a morning person AT ALL. She used to wake me up, without fail, at 5 am every morning. Fun times, let me tell you. I'd go back to sleep, but it was never enjoyable to walk downstairs at 5 am half asleep to pick up her poop -- especially not during Boston winters!

One Christmas, Sadie and I flew down to Florida and stayed with my Grandma and mom for the holiday. This was Sadie's first official vacation! And boy did she know it! She slept in. She didn't wake up until I woke up. She somehow knew it wasn't a normal day haha. I hoped this would continue when we got home...and it did!! And if she woke up earlier, I would tell her it was too early. Then she would sigh and go back to sleep! Silly girl.

This past year, Sadie got a little chubby, and slept in even later. (Her weight loss will be featured in an upcoming post!) But all of a sudden, she has had enough of sleeping late again! Ughhhh. I think she is waking up earlier because she lost weight and has more energy (and is probably hungry in the morning). But now she is beyond aggressive about getting me up lol.

The second I roll over to see what time it is in the morning, Sadie bounces up. I try to do this time check subtlety without her seeing my eyes open, but that dog just KNOWS it's happening. And no matter what time it is, it's all over for me...First she puts her entire body, nose first, under my pillow to push my head up. When that doesn't work, she barks in my ear a few times for good measure. She also jumps over my body (and on top of it) a few times...But when all else fails, she pulls my comforter off of me! She grabs the corner in her mouth and pulls. Punk!!! She knows I have to take that comforter off to get out of bed!

You know, sometimes having a smart dog is not that fun haha.

Swimming Sadie

Sadie has become rather psychotic with my aunt's pool. Why? Because she is DYING to "catch" the bubbles that come out of the jets. You may remember last summer when I dropped my phone in the pool as I was trying to capture Sadie's pool insanity...If not, here's the post :)

This summer, her drive to catch the bubbles has increased greatly. The second she is outside, she beelines right to the pool and starts barking and running back and forth on the side of the pool. I don't know whether to laugh or be annoyed!!! I've had to keep her on a leash, just because I don't know how daring she will be. If she jumps in the pool, she might rip the lining (it's an in-ground pool). And I don't think my aunt or uncle would like that! So I have to keep an eye on her.

When she's not barking her head off, she does enjoy swimming in the pool! Every time someone sees this for the first time, they're amazed at how good she is at swimming with those tiny little legs haha.

Sadie's Competition

As I (think) I've mentioned, or as many of you already know from Facebook, I've been dating someone for a few months now. The thing I was most worried about was how Sadie would react to him, and if he would like Sadie. Sadie has been my life for the past 5 years. We've been best buds, and I didn't want that to change.

Sadie is VERY protective of me. She even gets jealous when my mom hugs me. So I wasn't sure how she'd react to someone hugging and kissing me, etc. I'm happy to report, though, that my boyfriend loves Sadie, and Sadie loves him, too!

The first meeting was interesting. She was excited for a new person to come over, but then once she saw this person sitting close to me, and then taking me away, she wasn't too sure. Since then we've had a few more outings...to the lake, the dog park, etc. And for the most part things are fine. She does bark every once in awhile when he is hugging me, and she did end up sleeping right in between us one night lol. And of course, she gives me a biggggg guilt trip when I leave with him. But other than that, they're friends :)

He even took her to the park alone one day when I was at a doctor's appointment! Here are some pics he took:

Did anyone else have an issue introducing their significant other and their dog? My boyfriend grew up where dogs stayed outside, so he is still trying to adjust to Sadie being in the house and sleeping on my bed...but hopefully things will be ok with that aspect eventually, too!

I recently got an iPhone, and have fallen in love...not only with the phone, but with the Hipstamatic App. It's this awesome app that has all these different films and lenses for the camera. It takes GREAT photos. And it's perfect for me when I'm not carrying around my giant DSLR. I've been able to snap some awesome pics. And you can even have prints made.

Naturally, most of my pictures have been of Sadie (and as you'll see, mostly of Sadie sleeping haha). So I wanted to share some of them with you! Until I formulate a proper post, I figured some nice pictures of my sweet Sadie would hold you over!!

Blogging Hiatus

Hello all! I have been slacking in the blogging department as of late, and I am about to go on vacation for a week, so it's time to announce an official hiatus. Don't worry though...we will be back before you know it! Hopefully with lots of things to blog about (including pictures from my vacation!). I will sadly be leaving Sadie with my aunt and uncle while I am gone, but hopefully she will forgive me! The Sounds a Fatty Hears

It's true. My Sadie is a bit of a fatty. Haha. It's a very good thing that the weather is finally getting nicer, because she needs to get to the dog park and run more! I've tried taking her on some runs with me around the neighborhood, but she poops out pretty quickly. Sure, it could be those short little legs...or the fact that she runs like a bunny. I mean, that must be tiring! But still, she needs to get in shape!

I've noticed lately that she has become far too conditioned to the sounds of food in the house. She could literally be passed out on my bed or the couch, in a deep sleep, but if that fridge opens, the ears perk up and off she goes to find out what treat may be making its way into her belly! She doesn't even hesitate. She's off and running.

And if you pick up a bag of chips, watch out! These are her kryptonite! That crinkle of the bag is music to her ears, and she hauls ass, no matter where she is or what she is doing. It's actually rather amusing sometimes.

And of course, Sadie knows the words "Are you hungry?" or "Do you want dinner?" Her ears perk up and she starts panting. And if we are outside for a walk, she speeds up because she knows there is food in her future! Oh Sadie, my little fatty :)

Short Legs and Sneezes

Sadie sneezes a lot. Most of the time, they are not brought on by anything but annoyance haha. If she gets mad at me, she gets all worked up and starts barking and then sneezing. It's rather amusing. Then when I start laughing at her, she gets more mad and sneezes more hahahaha. It's a good time.

Lately, her sneezes have been pretty powerful! And because she is so close to the ground (short corgi legs!), she tends to slam her nose onto the ground as she is sneezing. It sounds SO painful. Does your corgi do this? It's good when she is on the carpet, but most of our house is hardwood floors, and that just can't be good for her lol. I don't have a video of her sneezing and slamming he nose on the floor, but I have a video of her sneezing when she gets annoyed at me so that will have to suffice for now!

Boston Trip Continued

On our way home from Boston, we stopped to see our friend Natasha and her dog, Pazzo, from Breathing and Butter. I hadn't seen them in far too long, so it was good to get to spend some time with them. I used to live with Tash, Pazzo, and her other dog Max (who you may remember passed away recently).

At first, Sadie was all excited to meet a new friend, but that seemed to wear off pretty quickly when she saw me giving attention to her new friend lol. Another confirmation that she will never let me have another dog...I am wondering how she will feel about my boyfriend though! Oy. Could be interesting.

Anyway, we had a good time, and Tash took some videos of the dogs with her flipcam. But as you'll see, they did not understand that they were actually supposed to interact when we filmed them hahahaha. The videos are still cute though :) Enjoy!

A Life Less Ordinary

As you can probably guess, we've been very busy lately. The school semester is quickly coming to an end, and I have lots of papers to work on before it's over. Then of course there's work which takes up way too much time haha. Other than that, we've had a lot of other things happening lately...

Last weekend, we took up trip up to Boston to see some of my friends. Sadie came with me! We stayed with my good friend Nicole, and Sadie slept during the whole drive on the passenger seat. She is a great travel companion.

When we arrived in Boston, we went to Nicole's place to settle in a bit, and then headed back out to grab some drinks with friends I used to work with. It was a lot of fun! Then the next day, we went to Nicole's second wedding dress fitting. I've never been to one, so that was a lot of fun. I was honored she asked me to go with her! :) The rest of the day was spent relaxing, catching up, and laughing. It was really a great weekend; I didn't want it to end! I need to get up there more often. I miss those girls a lot.

Other than that, I have some other news...If you're friends with me on Facebook you probably already know, but I am now officially "in a relationship." I wasn't sure I was ready for anything right now, but things have been going really well, and it just feels right. So I'm trying to savor all the good things in life right now. I've been feeling happier and better overall, and it's a good feeling. It's just still so foreign to me, so it seems unreal sometimes. Hopefully I start getting used to it :)

I took some pictures in Boston that I will post when I finally upload them. I just wanted to give everyone an update, so you knew why it's been a little quiet here on our blog. We hope you're all doing well! My life finally seems to be falling into place...something I never really thought would happen!

I Wish I Were a Little Bit Taller

Sometimes I don't think Sadie realizes how small she is, like when she barks her head off at giant dogs that could literally eat her if they tried. She thinks she's incredibly tough and can take them. I do not think she can. Or maybe she is just a punk/bully lol.

But other times, I think she realizes she is short and wants to be taller. For instance, one of our neighbors has a stone ledge/wall on one side of their house that progressively steps down in height. You can see it in this picture:

Right now, since nothing has bloomed yet, the wall is pretty bare. Oftentimes, we walk back home passing this wall, and every time we do, Sadie jumps up on the highest part and walks the rest of the way on the wall. It always cracks me up, because she seems to happy and walks all proud when she is up there. Like, "look at me ma, I'm tall!!!" I wish I had pictures of this. But for now you'll just have to imagine it :)

Food > Mama

So for the second time now, I have come home after a long day at work only to be completely ignored by Sadie. No, she's not asleep somewhere and not aware that I am home. She is in the kitchen (which I walk into from the garage), and she sees me walk in the door. She glances quickly over at me, and then focuses her attention on what is clearly more important than her own mother...FOOD. She is sitting at my uncle's feet, watching him eat, hoping for a morsel of his yummy food. More times than not, she gets some of his food, which is why her focus cannot be broken, not even to greet her mother!

The first time she did this, I was so upset. I look forward to her jumping up and down when I get home, showing her overwhelming excitement for my arrival. But even when I called her name, she wouldn't move. She would quickly glance at me and then focus her eyes right back on the food. Now when it happens, it's pretty amusing. She wouldn't leave her place until all his food was consumed. Then I heard her walking to the bedroom to finally say hello to me. What a punk!! I see how it is...Food is clearly more important than I am!

Something We Love

I wanted to share this product with you all, because I am a big fan of it. When I first adopted Sadie, I got her a basic tag to hang on her collar. But when I put the tag on her collar, she froze. She wouldn't move when the metal tag hit the metal of her collar. Well, this was obviously a problem!! I didn't know what to do. I tried those plastic things that fit around the perimeter of the tag to help silence it. They didn't really work...I also found this little thing that attaches to the collar and holds the tags, but it was kind of clunky and I didn't like it. Then, I bought a collar from L.L. Bean with her name and my number embroidered on it. I do actually recommend these collars, because it is pretty cool! But I also like to change Sadie's collar too much because I get bored lol, so that one only solved the problem temporarily.

When I was at my friend's house, I noticed her aunt's dogs had these awesome tags that slid onto the collar. It was perfect! I needed to know where she got them. So she got me the information and I ordered one right away. It's called a CollarTag from Boomerang Tags. They come in different sizes and different types. We have the CollarTag for Adjustable Nylon Collars in size Medium. I am in love with this tag!! It was inexpensive, and it seriously does not fall off of any collar! I have also never had a problem getting it on any of Sadie's collars.

You can put whatever you want on the tag...Ours has Sadie's name, my name, and my phone number. I've had this one for several years and it has held up exceptionally well. I'll have to get a new one soon, only because my phone number is going to change!

Princess Sadie

The other day, Karen from Bailey the Corgi told me that Sadie's name means "Princess." How fitting is that? She is certainly a princess and acts like royalty!!! The past few days, I have found her sleeping in some interesting positions.

Her new favorite thing is to sleep on top of any pillow that is just lying around. She tends to think they are placed there for her. She looks pretty royal, doesn't she?

I have been trying to get pictures of her on all the different couches, because she moves from one to the next throughout the day haha.

Sharing Sadie's Story

Sadie is featured on another website! Lovely Paige of Dexter Diary has started up a new blog called CorgiPals. Go check it out! She calls it "a blog dedicated to giving a voice to Corgis in need." So how could you not want to take a look? Besides featuring wonderful charities and fundraisers, she is also featuring stories about rescued corgis. We were lucky enough to be the first feature! I know most of you know our story already, but please take a trip over to the site if you get a chance and read our post.

Other than that, I have a lot of things to post about...I just haven't had the time! I hope to post more soon :) We hope you are all doing well, and we're so happy that you are here to follow our journey!

Who rescued whom?

I’ve been having a rough time lately. Just typical life stuff and stress. When I was talking about it with a friend yesterday, I mentioned how all I want to do is snuggle with Sadie. This is usually my go-to de-stressor. Corgis make excellent cuddlers, and Sadie in particular loves to snuggle. The night after I adopted Sadie, I called my friend crying. I was worried I was adopting a dog for the wrong reasons. I was scared I couldn’t do it. That I’d be a bad dog momma. At the time, I had just moved into my own apartment, so it was just me and Sadie. I hoped a dog would keep me company. I was worried I thought a dog might fix all my problems, but instead just give me new ones to worry about. My friend reassured me, and luckily I got over those fears. Sadie became my best friend.

Sadie was the first pet that is truly mine. She depends on me. She loves me. I can see it in her eyes. That may sound insane, but it’s true. Like when we’re at the dog park, and she scans the crowd for me. She looks scared if she can’t find me at first, but when she finally sees me, her eyes light up, and she comes bounding over to me. It makes me smile every time.

Every time I come home, she shakes her little nub like crazy and jumps up and down. What human will ever be this excited to see me??? And when we get into bed at night, she wants to be as close to me as possible. I cannot imagine what my life would be like without her. I probably would have been a lot worse off in Boston if I didn’t adopt her. She is the best little girl in the world, and I love her with my entire heart.

Yes, Sadie is a rescue dog, but truth be told, she’s the one that rescued me. And I will be eternally grateful for that. I didn’t post anything about Valentine’s Day. I am not a fan of the holiday. But I wanted to post this to express my love for Sadie. She will always be my Valentine, and she will always be my little girl. Thank you, Sadie, for rescuing me.

My Dog Has Outsmarted Me!

It's amazing how dogs catch onto routines so quickly. Sadie knows that when I wash my face at night, I'm getting ready for bed, and she'll go wait for me on our bed. Or in the morning, when I brush my teeth, she knows I'm going to be leaving for work (or somewhere) soon. Every morning, she comes into the bathroom with me. For the longest time, she would then follow me back to our room where I'd get ready. Sadie stays in my room during the day. Because I'm still living with family, she doesn't have free roam of the house when I'm away. Usually she will behave, but sometimes, she decides to pull out all the trash or something equally annoying.

She knows that once I get her in that room, I'm going to leave her in there. So she's decided to NOT follow me back to my room after I shower. Instead she will lay on the couch in the living room. This then forces me to coax her back into my bedroom before I leave for work. This used to be as easy as asking her if she wanted a cookie. She'd come running, because what corgi says no to food??? But my smart little corgi has put two and two together. She knows that the cookie means she has to go in my room. So guess what? SHE IS REFUSING TO COME GET A COOKIE!

Oh trust me, she wants that cookie. I see her contemplating the ramifications. She will look the other way, and then keep checking out of the corner of her eye to see if it's still there. How has my dog become smarter than me??? So now I basically have to pick her up or REALLY trick her with the cookie. Once she's off the couch, she will follow me if I have the cookie in my hands. It's just a matter of getting her off the couch. We will both be happy when we get our own place again, just for the fact that we won't have to play these silly games! What a punk!!

Corgi Cuteness

The other day, we received something fun in the mail! A lovely corgi magnet made by Paige over at Dexter Diary. She used Sadie as the model/inspiration for this tricolor magnet, but she also makes every other corgi fur variety and sells them over on her Etsy page!! They are super cute, and I think it looks nice next to our Christmas card :) So go check out her Etsy page and her blog as well, because Dexter is adorable and who can resist another cute corgi??? (She has some awesome Mario Brothers magnets as well!)

Sadie has woken me up the past two mornings throwing up on my bed. Good times. Why do they always puke so early in the morning? And why is it always on the bed??

I think everything is ok with her. I mean, after she throws up she seems fine, and is eating and pooping as usual. I'm keeping an eye on her. I'm not sure what the problem is though.

This may be a little TMI, but she has puked up unchewed pieces of potato each time. Maybe that's the issue? I don't know! Any advice/thoughts?

I just feel so bad for her, because she gets so upset after it happens and tries to cover it up. Poor thing. I hope her tummy feels better soon.

Snowpocalypse

Apparently we have had something like 35 inches of snow since the beginning of January. This does not include the blizzard we had the day after Christmas, which dropped over a foot of snow as well. AND we are expected to get another foot (or more) of snow this week. Seriously? Where is the snow going to go???? It's already piled up so high everywhere. Parking in shopping center parking lots is a complete nightmare, and most corners have snow piled so high, you can't see cars coming and are forced to make blind turns. I did not sign up for this! And poor little Sadie and her short little legs...she has nowhere to go to the bathroom, unless she wants to climb up a giant mound of snow. It's a complete mess. Although it was rather funny watching her try to jump a pile of snow that was probably at least three feet high in order to see a dog that was barking at her! Wish I got a picture of that!!

I did however get some other wintery pics I'd like to share with you. Yes, it is rather beautiful after the snow falls, but now I just want it to melt!! Enjoy...

Sled Dog

Last weekend, my uncle decided we should all go sledding! I had never been sledding. (Or at least I thought I never had...my mom said I went one winter in NY when I was very little. But growing up in Florida didn't provide much snow to sled on haha.) So we all bundled up, and headed out to a secret sledding locale he heard about from a friend. And by we, I do mean Sadie, too! She put on her winter coat and shook her little nub with excitement. She just loves the car, so she didn't care where we were going, as long as she was included.

Once we got to the hill, Sadie was very excited and basically just wanted to run free in the snow. I couldn't let her though, because I would have never caught her if she decided to be a punk and not listen (which was likely). So instead, I let her run down the hill to get me after I sled down it. She was so happy!

And then I decided to take her with me on the sled for one ride. I wasn't sure how she would react, but she stayed in my lap, and didn't try to jump off, so that's a good sign. I think she was shaking a little once we got to the end of the hill, but then she bounced back and ran right up to my aunt and uncle. So I think she had fun! And boy was she tired after that morning...and the poor little thing couldn't even sleep when we got home, because we headed to my grandparents' house for a birthday celebration. She passed out the second we arrived back home though!

Forgive me for not taking more pictures, but I nearly broke another cell phone by dropping it in the snow a few times just to get this picture haha. Fail. I would have loved to take more though!

Food Patrol

My uncle discovered that Sadie will follow us anywhere if we have food in our hands. She will walk around the couch ten times just in case you drop something! So every once in awhile, we will go on a walk while we snack, to see where she will follow us. I recorded a video of this yesterday. Excuse the shakiness of it; I was laughing hysterically. As was my uncle. Notice how she jumps up on the couch in an effort to get closer to said food. Haha. She is one silly pup!!

We also discovered that if you leave the plate of food in the kitchen, she knows not to follow you, and to instead stand guard in case it miraculously falls onto the floor! LOL.

The Verdict's In...

Well, after a 3 hour flight delay, I finally made it home to NY! I hate flying, so being stuck at an airport for 4 hours isn't my idea of a good time lol. But I made it home, and I couldn't wait to see my little Sadie. When I got home, she came running out into the garage to greet me, and she was definitely excited, bouncing up and down! Coming home to that is the best feeling in the world. It was so wonderful to cuddle with her again, and just be NEAR her. I missed her tons. I'm glad she was happy with my aunt and uncle though. She likes it there, and even if she is sad I leave her, she goes about her routine as if I were there.

She was of course excited for the homemade treats I bought her. She was less excited for the new collar, but it looks great on her! I will have to take some pictures soon :) Once I upload the pictures from Florida, I will post a few. I didn't take too many, as the weather wasn't as nice as I'd hoped. (Of course the weather was gorgeous the day I left though!) It was a good mini vacation though. But it always goes so quickly!

Heading Home Tomorrow

I'll be heading back to NY (and the snow) tomorrow. I'm sad my vacation went so quickly and it's over but I'm very excited to see Sadie again! I feel like I've been away from her for weeks. Leaving her is seriously the hardest thing ever. Hopefully she will be excited to see me when I get home. I hope everyone is doing well! I haven't had a chance to catch up on the blogs I follow yet, but I didn't hear back from anyone on my last post...How do you cope with leaving your dog when you go away?

Vacation Blues

I'm in Florida right now visiting my parents, but I miss Sadie like crazy! I bought her a new Gators collar and some homemade treats while I was out yesterday (shhhh don't tell her!). It is so hard to leave her, even if it's just for a few days. I miss that stinkerbelle and it has been hard sleeping without her laying on top of me! How does everyone cope when you have to leave your pup?? I wish I could bring her everywhere!

Sadie is Not a Fan...

My uncle got this cool helicopter for Christmas, and he was testing it out this weekend. It's pretty awesome, but Sadie was really NOT a fan lol. You can see what I mean in this video. She got too close to it at one point and her nose got clipped by the propeller. :( She's ok though!!! I am going to make sure my uncle plays with this outside from now on, but it was pretty amusing!

Chillin' Bonz

Sadie received a pretty cool gift from my Grandma for Christmas, and we had to try it out right away. It's called Chillin' Bonz. I can only seem to find them on Amazon though...I will have to check to see if there is a website address on the box when I get home. If there is, I will update.

Anyway, it's this awesome tray that allows you to freeze bone-shaped treats for your dog! It comes with a bunch of recipes, too. So we tried the peanut butter and banana flavor, because Sadie loves PB and bananas! It also had a little bit of honey in it as well. The trays come in two different sizes; either four large bones, or I think eight smaller bones. We have the tray with four bones. I've been breaking them up though when I give them to Sadie because she just inhales them lol.

This is the product. It's pretty cool, I think. The tray snaps closed and has an inner removable layer as well (where the bone molds are), which makes for easy cleaning.

I couldn't get a picture of her eating the bone, because I seriously turned around to get the camera, and when I turned back, she finished it lol. So I suppose she approves!!! These will be great in the summer, I think! I definitely want to try all the recipes. We'll let you know how they all come out :)

Oh, I also wanted to mention...you clearly could do the same thing with an ice cube tray, but I thought these were pretty cool, and I like the bone shape hehe. Also, the bones come out of the tray VERY easily, because the inner removable layer is a softer material that allows you to pop out the treats with ease. I would definitely recommend it! By far one of coolest gifts Sadie received :) I think she's a fan of them as well!

Snow Day!

First of all, Happy New Year! :)

Last week, we had a huge blizzard here in NY and got about 18 inches of snow. And I got a snow day from work! WOOHOO! Sadie was so excited. Not only did her momma get to stay home, but all the white fluffy stuff was on the ground again :) Sadie LOVES the snow. I wish she would eat less of it though lol. I didn't get a lot of pictures of Sadie in the snow this time...but I am sure we will have another storm soon enough. For now, just pics of the aftermath haha.

I took lots of Christmas pics, mainly on Christmas Eve with my cousin who has the same camera as I do. We always enjoy playing around with our cameras and learning new things! Secret Santa!

I am probably the last to post about our Secret Santa gift!! Sorry about that. I had a very busy weekend, and haven't been online at all. We were very excited to participate in the Corgi Butts Secret Santa Gift Exchange this year (and we hope to do it next year, too!). Sadie got super spoiled this year with Christmas gifts, but she had a lot of fun...I have lots of pictures to post over the next few days, but this post is entirely dedicated to Secret Santa.

Our Christmas Cards

Seeing as my cards have been received by nearly all of their recipients, I wanted to share them here for everyone else to see! I ordered my cards from Shutterfly and I chose two different designs. So even if you got a card from me, you haven't seen the other design! :) (P.S. If I said I would send you a card and you haven't gotten it, let me know! Hopefully everyone received them.)

I really was impressed by how the cards came out this year and definitely would recommend ordering them from Shutterfly! I loved the cardstock they were printed on, too. Winter is REALLY Here!

Last weekend, we finally got our Christmas tree! But we still haven't decorated it...We also bought lights to hang up outside, but we haven't put those up yet either haha. We're moving at a glacial pace this holiday season. There has just been too much to do, and not enough time. I will be sure to post pictures when the lights are up and the tree is decorated though! Sadie wasn't too interested in the tree. In fact, it was in the garage when I took her out and she walked right past it. I was like HELLO there is a giant tree, do you not even want to sniff it??? She's so over it.

I sent out all my Christmas cards and packages yesterday! So if you are getting a card from me, be on the lookout :) I ended up getting two different card designs, so I'll post both here after Christmas. And besides all that Christmas cheer, I woke up this morning to snow! Not a lot, but it's the first snowfall of the season, and Sadie didn't seem to care haha. I think she was focused on the task at hand (going to the bathroom), because after that, she frolicked a bit and ate some snow. She will be very excited when we get our first snow storm. She loves jumping right into the snow and bouncing around.

In the holiday spirit, I wanted to post a few pics that make me smile. Unfortunately, these are not pictures I've taken, but this winter my goal is to take a lot more pictures! These are just some stock photos I came across on Getty Images that I wanted to share.

The Corgi (or Any Breed) Card Exchange!

As I mentioned, we ordered our holiday cards, and we'd like to share the love with our blog friends!! Would you like to receive a holiday card from us?? If so, email me your mailing address. Well, winter is officially upon us. I saw snow flurries on my way to work this morning!! I know some of you have already gotten much more snow than that, but flurries are all I can handle right now hahaha. I'm just not in the winter mood this year. I'm already freezing!

I've been doing pretty well with my Christmas shopping this year. Usually I'm shopping on Christmas Eve! Yes, I'm one of those people haha. But I actually made lists and only have a few more things to get. This is good, since I have to mail out so many of the gifts! Someone I haven't really shopped for yet, though, is Sadie!! It's always fun shopping for her, so I don't worry about what to get. Plus, she just loves presents in general. She totally KNOWS that the gifts inside her stocking are for her. She guards it!!

I've gotten her a few things so far, and I wanted to share some gift ideas with you! Shhhh, don't tell Sadie!!! :)

I got her this cool toy when I went to Target on Black Friday. It has three different types of squeakers in it and no stuffing. It feels like a water bottle almost, but doesn't make that sound, which I think might scare her.

I'll be checking out PetSmart soon for the rest of her gifts, plus all the other pets on my list! I have 4 cats and two dogs to buy for besides Sadie (and that includes our Secret Santa recipient!).

I might not get these, but here are some of the toys I like on PetSmart.com.

As for treats, Sadie will eat pretty much anything, but how cute are these?? Milk and cookies! Ha.

Did you already shop for your pets? I had to clear out some of Sadie's toys to make room for the new ones haha. She wasn't too happy about that, but hopefully she'll forgive me when she sees her new goodies!

Thanksgiving Recap

How was your Thanksgiving? We had a nice, quiet day. We went to my aunt's house, and it was just the five of us (aunt, uncle, cousins, me)...and of course the two doggies! We ate lots of food and then just watched movies by the fire. It was nice. And before dinner, my cousin took some pictures of me and Sadie for our Christmas card! I will share some of the outtakes with you, but I'm keeping the actual picture a secret for now :) I ordered my cards last night; can't wait to see how they came out! We hope you had a great Thanksgiving! It was so hard to come back to work today...

We hope you all have a very Happy Thanksgiving! We're off to my aunt's house tomorrow, where we will be eating lots of yummy food and hanging out with our family. Sadie will surely get her own plate, like she always does at their house!

The UPS Man

I love how the day after I say I have nothing to talk about, I think of something to talk about...that's how it always is, isn't it? Haha.

I was reminded of a cute story because yesterday I received something I had ordered and it was delivered by UPS while I wasn't at home. On top of the box was a little dog biscuit. No, it didn't come with my package; the UPS man left it for Sadie. There is a certain driver who knows where all the dogs live in the neighborhood, and if he delivers a package, he also delivers a treat for the pup! How cute is that?

But that's not all! If he sees you walking your dog, he will stop his truck to give out a treat! One day Sadie and I were walking down the street (and it was dark out already). We saw the UPS truck driving toward us and it just stops and the driver threw a treat in our direction. Because it was dark, I couldn't see where the treat landed, so I told Sadie to find it! And she did haha. It was adorable.

Sadie definitely knows the UPS truck means treat time now, and gets super excited every time she sees it driving by! Does your UPS/FedEx/Mailman do something similar? I think it's great that he remembers all the dogs and specifically brings treats for them. My other aunt (who I housesit for often) has had the same experience with UPS. I love it!

Where does the time go?

There are not enough hours in the day anymore. I haven't had much to write about it seems...mainly because I don't have time to think about what I could write about! For some reason, this semester of graduate school has been very intense. I'm taking two classes, and working full-time. So my free time is very limited. Most weekends are spent doing homework. I feel like I barely get to spend any time with Sadie these days, although we cuddle every night. I wish I could stay home with her more. I hope she understands in her own way...

The holidays are creeping up on us. I can't believe Thanksgiving is next week. How did that happen? It seems I might not even have a traditional Thanksgiving dinner next week...not sure how I feel about that, but I guess it's ok. The holidays just aren't the same anymore now that I'm older. They used to be so magical. Now they're stressful. I usually don't get to see either of my parents for the holidays now. They're both in Florida, and I'm here in NY. It's way too stressful (and expensive) to fly down for Christmas, so I usually go after the holidays. This year, I'll be going in the middle of January. It works for us, and we celebrate Christmas then, which is kind of fun. But I always get a bit nostalgic around Christmastime because it's just not the same anymore. I'll still be with family (my aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.), but it's different.

This Thanksgiving, I'll be going to my Aunt's house. I'll see both of my cousins, which will be nice. And one of my cousins will be taking pictures of me and Sadie for our Christmas card! So hopefully I will have some photos to share with you after that. I'm sure the holidays will be good. I think I'm just overwhelmed with the amount of work I have to get done for my classes before the holidays. My last class is on December 22, so I don't even get much time before Christmas!

Sorry if I don't post much in the coming weeks, but know I'm still here and reading everyone else's blogs :) I'm looking forward to the Corgi Butts Secret Santa Exchange this year. I know many of you are participating as well! We hope everyone is doing well.

Finally got around to uploading these pictures! Life has been flying by lately, so we apologize for the lack of posts. I still haven't ordered my Holiday Cards yet, because I really want to get a good picture of Sadie and I together...I'm going to have my cousin take some at Thanksgiving. Hopefully we get a good one! (There might even be some snow by then...although I don't want snow lol.) We will be sure to keep you updated with pictures!

So onto her birthday pics. She really enjoyed the treats I got her, and the cool squeaker toy I found. It's a Kong Squeaker that is the same material as the squeaky balls, but in the shape of a propeller! She grabbed it and ran around the house with it lol. So I guess it was a success! She also took her birthday cookie and ran into my room to eat it. She is too funny.

I'm a bad mother. I kind of forgot that yesterday was Sadie's birthday...I mean, I know her birthday is November 1, but for some reason, I didn't realize yesterday was actually November 1. Or maybe I'm just in denial about the fact that it is November, and it is freezing here already. I'm going to assume it's the latter.

When I adopted Sadie, her documents said her birthday was November 1, 2005. But I'm assuming this was just a guess, as they had no idea how old she was when they found her. So we celebrate on this day (when I am not a bad mother and remember), even if it may not be her actual birthday.

So, Miss Sadie is now 5 years old!!! She is growing up so fast haha. I have had Sadie for a little over 4 years now, and they've been the best 4 years ever. She is my best friend and I love her so much! I am going to stop at the pet store on my way home to get her a little birthday surprise, so pictures will be coming later in the week. Happy birthday, Sadie!! Thank you for being my best bud.

Trick or Treat!

Well, Sadie was a big hit in our neighborhood yesterday (duh!!). We decided on the shark costume this year. But I also took some pictures of her in her ghost costume for your enjoyment :) I made a sign for our front door, warning the trick or treaters of a shark sighting! They all laughed when they saw Sadie through the glass hehe. I have a funny video to post later in the week, but for now, here are the pictures! We hope you all had a great Halloween!

'Tis the Season

I'm skipping over Halloween (momentarily) to post about the awesome cards on Shutterfly. Right now, Shutterfly is offering 20% off all holiday cards.

I'm still not sure which card design I will choose, because there are so many! They have Christmas cards, Hanukkah cards, and even Christmas invitations if you plan on having a holiday party.

When choosing a holiday card, I usually opt for something that isn't too Christmas-y. A lot of people I send cards to don't celebrate Christmas, so I like to stay a bit neutral. Plus, pictures of Sadie are the main focus anyway, so we don't want anything too distracting! I'm thinking about using a design that allows for multiple photos, like this one:

But then there are so many awesome designs that just allow for one larger photo, and I'm tempted to use one of those instead. Something like this is really pretty, I think:

But I'm not sure I have one really amazing picture of Sadie and me. I was going to possibly put some of my "photography" pics on card that allows for multiple photos, including pictures of Sadie. What does everyone think? Maybe I could create my own photo collage and then upload it to a design that allows for one large photo. Not sure if that would be too busy then? Hmmm, well I am going to have to decide soon! The problem is, I have a lot of great photos of Sadie alone, but she refuses to pose for pictures when I'm in them with her!! Is it weird to just send a card with Sadie on it? Haha.

Say Goodbye to Summer/Fall

I grew up in Florida, so there was only ever one season there: Summer. Sometimes during the year you could call it "Hotter Summer" or "Cooler Summer" but we never really had Fall, Spring, or certainly not Winter. I was never really a fan of this when I lived there for 23 years. But now that I have experienced brutal winters (in Boston and NY), I do revel in the Summer heat now. This year, I have been in denial about the fact that Summer is over, and the temperatures are going to continue to drop. Sadie LOVES the snow, but I certainly do not love walking her when it's freezing out. I meant to post these videos of Sadie swimming several months ago...but I actually didn't think my phone had saved them, because I dropped my old phone into the pool as I was filming one of them lol (oops). But they survived somehow! So there is one short one of her swimming, and another of her barking at the bubbles from the filter. She was obsessed with trying to "catch" the bubbles in the water haha. So this is our tribute to the end of Summer. We hope you enjoy it :)

P.S. I may have bought Sadie two more Halloween costumes yesterday because PetSmart was having a 75% off sale!! Oops. So yes, she now has three costumes. I have a problem. Haha. I don't know which costume she'll wear this year though!!!

Because I discovered this wonderful blog through Our Life: Dozer and Coop, I thought I should blog about them! :) If you don't know Dozer and Coop (and Nancy) already, you should go check out their page!! They post about a variety of topics, and there's always a lot of humor involved (and adorable pictures).

Dozer is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi (yay corgis!) and Cooper is an American Cocker Spaniel. As you'll see from the blog, Dozer really runs the show, but Coop gets his time to shine as well (much to Dozer's dismay!).

Update and Other Nonsense

Well, Sadie is still acting scared on some mornings. I still don't know what the problem is though. I think it might be because I am getting ready for work. This all started after I went away for a weekend. So maybe she is just remembering that? Or it's just her remembering the morning when the carbon monoxide detector was beeping. I try to ignore it as much as I can. She calms down when we are in our bedroom, but if I get up, she will follow me and stay as close as possible. It just makes me sad, but I think she is okay.

Another fun thing that has resurfaced...when we go out for walks now (because the weather has cooled down), Sadie will decide she doesn't want to go inside. So she just lays down on the sidewalk, the grass, or the street and refuses to move. She just looks at me when I reprimand her. And if I pull on her leash, she contorts her head so her collar comes off (and the collar isn't loose). I try picking her up, and she lays right back down. It's really frustrating. I know this is clearly because Sadie thinks she's in charge. Unfortunately for the most part, she is. I just don't know how to get her to stop this, or to just listen to me! She does this to my aunt and uncle, too, but she seems to listen to them more when they say no.

Other than that, I've been really busy with work and school, but this past weekend we went to the dog park. Sadie was very excited! It has been awhile, because it was so hot this summer. She started crying when we got close to the park. I even let her swim in the lake for a little bit...but then I gave her a bath right when we got home. She wasn't too thrilled about the latter. Hope everyone is doing well. I can't believe it's October...and the weather is getting so cool :( Do not want winter!

In Need of Help/Advice

First, hello! I am back from Florida. The reunion was kind of weird, but we had fun. There was a lot of alcohol involved lol. I missed Sadie terribly, but it was great coming home to her wiggly little butt!! She was very excited. And so was I. I cuddled with her all night.

As I mentioned a few posts ago, I think Sadie has some kind of PTSD. I thought she had gotten better after this last incident, but I noticed Sadie was still acting weird in the mornings. Every morning when I wake up, she is the same as usual: excited to go outside. She runs to the front door, we go for a walk, and everything seems fine. Then when we get back into the house, I get her breakfast ready, and she just starts acting funny. She hides under the table and looks petrified again. And here's what's really bothering me...she won't come eat her breakfast! Sadie ALWAYS eats. But she won't even come over to the food. She just looks around the kitchen with her ears back and her eyes wide. It's like she sees or hears something and is afraid of it.

I have been bringing her food into my room, and she sometimes will eat in there. But this morning, it took a long time for her to calm down enough to eat. Besides the not eating, she is refusing to drink water in the morning, too. I got her to lick some ice cubes this morning, and I left water for her, but that still really worries me.

The only thing I can think of is that this other incident happened in the morning last week, and she was in the kitchen when she heard it. So maybe she is still having some kind of PTSD episode? My uncle mentioned that when my aunt went to go pick me up at the airport on Monday, Sadie was trying to get out of the house, pushing her nose up against the glass door constantly and crying. Something is scaring her. But what can it be??

It's starting to really upset me. And I really am afraid to leave her every day now. Does anyone have any suggestions? What would you do? Should I bring her to the vet? Help, please!

Separation Anxiety

I have been posting a lot lately! Hope you all don't mind :) You'll get a mini break from my rambling starting tomorrow. Which brings me to this post...

I am leaving tomorrow to go to Florida for my 10 year high school reunion (which is why I was on a weight loss mission for the past several months and lost 45 pounds!). I will be there until Monday afternoon. This means I have to leave Sadie here in NY with my aunt and uncle (who she loves!). But, I still have to LEAVE her. Which kills me. She guilt trips me, and just looks so pathetic when I leave, which breaks my heart.

The suitcase has come out, and she knows something is going on. I feel horrible leaving her, but it's great to know that she will be in good hands! I wish I could bring her with me everywhere though :) Hope everyone has a great weekend, and we'll see you again here next week!

More Corgis with Blogs Calendar!

PTSD

As you know, I rescued Sadie several years ago. (More on that here.) But I still don't know her history. In the years that I've been with Sadie, I've certainly seen some classic abused dog behaviors though. I have no idea if she was abused as a pup. I honestly would rather not know what really happened to her, because I am sure it would upset me. But Sadie certainly has some history that I'm sure she wishes she could forget. I really think she suffers from PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), and it kills me every time something sets her off.

We experienced one of these episodes this morning. Any time Sadie hears some kind of beeping noise, such as the smoke detector (whether it's going off or the battery needs to be changed), Sadie FREAKS out. I've mentioned this briefly before here. This morning before I got ready for work, the battery alarm on the carbon monoxide detector started chirping. Sadie went running. I found her shaking in a corner with her ears back and her eyes wide. Her heart was racing. It didn't help that the cat decided to smack her as she walked by either lol.

I picked up Sadie and put her in the bathroom and quickly tried to replace the battery. (It took me awhile to figure out it was actually the carbon monoxide detector and not the smoke detector, too.) After I replaced the battery, I went back to check on Sadie. She hadn't moved. She looked petrified. I tried to calm her down as much as possible, but when she gets like this, it takes a long time for her to calm down. Every sound seems to get amplified for her, and she is just on edge for awhile. Her heart had stopped racing by the time I finished my shower, but I still had to carry her into my room, as she wouldn't leave the bathroom (even with the promise of treats!).

When this happens, it breaks my heart. I had to leave her, too, to go to work, which was even worse. She had calmed down by that time, but still looked a bit shaken. This is how she looked before I left:

You can see how scared she is in her face. And her ears stay that like for awhile after it happens. Every sound freaks her out. (And yes, I gave her that bear and her favorite blanket before I left in hopes that it would help her lol.) The best way I've discovered to calm her down is to just talk to her in a soothing tone and cuddle with her. I was rubbing her face and just being close to her for awhile. Something else that helps is Rescue Remedy, which has a version made especially for pets. It's a natural remedy (and they have a human version as well) and it definitely works. I've used the human version on myself. And the pet version definitely seems to calm Sadie down. I don't use it every time; only when it's really bad and she can't stop shaking in the corner.

Do your pets have similar reactions to certain sounds or sights? What do you do to calm them down? It's so sad seeing Sadie like this.

Corgi Art!

As I mentioned yesterday, I received lots of fun packages over the weekend.

During the Paws It Forward excitement on the blogs these past few weeks, I saw that Kelly at Corgi Butts and Karen at Butterball the Nutball received amazing corgi paintings from their Paws It Forward sender, Katie at All That Jazz. I immediately contacted Katie asking if I could purchase one of these paintings from her, because I loved it so much!! She agreed, and I received my painting over the weekend. I absolutely LOVE it. Don't you?

It is so fun and bright (which I love)! I'm a big fan of silhouette paintings, so this is perfect for me. I think Sadie likes it, too.

Paws It Forward

Sadie and I received three very special packages this weekend!! We will discuss two very exciting corgi art pieces tomorrow, so be sure to check back then. But first thing's first: Paws It Forward! I finally managed to comment in time on a Paws It Forward post over at Butterball the Nutball's blog (now home to Butterball AND Benny). I was very excited to participate in this fun idea.

For any of you that aren't familar with it, the basic idea is that each person that receives a Paws It Forward package will send out two more packages, and each of those people will send two packages, and so on and so forth.

I might be a little too late in posting this...It seems like a lot of people already voted. And it seems like Sadie isn't getting that many votes :( But Kelly at Corgi Butts is having a photo contest for her corgi calendar, and Sadie is a finalist! We'd love it if you would vote for Sadie! I would love to see my little girl's face on a calendar for a whole month. There are so many great pictures, and it's hard to pick just 12...but Sadie is number 10. You probably recognize the picture :)

Corgi Creativity

In an effort to find a removable corgi decal for my new (to me) car, I discovered some other fun corgi items I wanted to share with everyone. I have no affiliation with any of these sellers; I just thought these items were too cute to keep to myself! If you haven’t purchased from etsy before, you’re missing out! There is some incredible stuff on there — all handmade! And of course, thanks to Kelly from Corgi Butts, Laurie from The Daily Corgi, and all my other Facebook friends for help finding decals...I still haven’t ordered one, because I am insanely indecisive, but now I have several options to choose from :)

Doggie Breath

Now, I know dogs have bad breath. But Sadie's is pretty nasty. I brush her teeth, but I don't know if I do it often enough. And it seriously only helps for a little bit. I know sometimes she gets into the cat's litter box and eats their poop (gross, I know). She had stopped this for awhile, but I have discovered her doing it again. Obviously that would make her breath smell disgusting, but even when she doesn't do that, it's rancid!! The vet says her teeth are good; she has a little bit of tartar on her back teeth, but nothing crazy. The vet suggested a cleaning before it gets a lot worse. (I'm also scared about getting her teeth cleaned, since they have to put them under anesthesia. I'm paranoid.) Anyway, I'm just wondering if anyone has any suggestions to help with her stinky breath! Is this a corgi thing? Or just a dog thing in general? I've seen breath freshener liquids at the pet store that you add to their water, but not sure if that is good for them, or if it even would help. Any suggestions would help!

Frosty Paws

Sadie LOVES Frosty Paws. Has your dog tried them? I call them "licky licky" and when I ask her if she wants "licky licky," she starts salivating haha. The cutest thing is she picks up the little cup by the lip on the top, and carries it to where she prefers to eat it (which is usually my room). It cracks me up. I took some pics of Sadie and her doggie cousin, Harlie, enjoying a nice summer treat...I think I should submit the last one to Frosty Paws! Hahaha.

Lazy Weekend

Last week, we were housesitting (and dog/cat/bird-sitting) for my aunt. She has a pool, which is always nice when the weather is super hot! So Sadie and I (and their dog, Harlie) enjoyed a nice lazy weekend by the pool. I took some pictures of the dogs, and some came out really well, I think! As you can see, Sadie is quite confused as to what she should do after that first step...she just keeps sticking her paws out and feeling nothing but water. So I had to pick her up and put her in so she could swim a bit. But she wasn't much of a fan of that lol. And I wasn't able to get a picture of her swimming. (When I tried to video her swimming, I dropped my cell phone in the pool. Awesome. At least it wasn't the DSLR though!) Enjoy the pics! We hope you are keeping cool this summer!

Doggie-Sized Pool

I bought Sadie a wading pool at PetSmart recently (it even has bones as a design element haha)...but she just doesn't seem to get it. I will put her in there on the hottest of days, and she just jumps out! Silly girl. She is still slightly confused by the actual swimming pool as well (but that's another post entirely -- to come soon!). Here are a few pictures of her in the wading pool. Note her confused facial expression!

Through the Years

Next month, it will be 4 years since I adopted Sadie. Right after I adopted her, I was scared. Scared of the responsibility of owning a dog. Scared because I thought maybe I adopted her to "cure" some of my own issues. I got over that pretty quickly, though. Adopting Sadie has been the best thing I've ever done in my life. I love her more than I ever thought I could love any creature, and coming home to her every day makes my life so much better. I thought I'd share some pictures of us through the years...

I was going through old pictures, and found the first ones I ever took at Sadie. When I got her, they said she was between 1-2 years old. She must have been much closer to 1 year or younger though, because she has grown a lot since I got her! I don't even realize it until I see these pics though.

Another brief passage from Jodi Picoult's newest book caught my eye and I wanted to share because this time it's specifically about corgis!! :)

"When someone bought a corgi puppy, I offered facts along with Puppy Chow. (It's related to the dachshund! Its name is Welsh and means dwarf dog!)"

It made me happy she mentioned corgis!! Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

I am currently reading House Rules by Jodi Picoult and came across an interesting passage. The book is about a young boy with Asperger's (which I find very fascinating), so there are times when he will spew out random facts about various subjects. I thought these would be cool to share here, as they are all about dogs!

They evolved from a small mammal called miacis, a tree dweller that lived 40 million years ago.
They were first domesticated by Paleolithic cavemen.
No matter the breed, a dog has 321 bones and 42 permanent teeth.
Dalmatians are born white.
The reason they turn in a circle before lying down is because when they were wild animals, this helped mat the long grass into a bed.
Approximately one million dogs have been named the primary beneficiaries of their owners’ wills.
They sweat through the pads of their feet.
Scientists have found that dogs can smell the presence of autism in kids.

I found number 5 especially fascinating! I always wondered why they did that!

Anyway, the book is really good if you're looking for a summer read! I'm not done yet, but I have enjoyed it so far. I like most of her books. Happy Summer!
