Cocoa Butter Lotion
Quick question for everyone...I know I posted previously about the fact that Sadie loves to lick me after I put on lotion. She also licks wherever I was sitting as I applied it (usually the bed). But, I just bought some Cocoa Butter lotion, and have been using it for a few days. I am wondering if this could be potentially bad for her because of the cocoa??? Does anyone know? I will stop using it immediately if that is the case, because there's no way I can get her to stop licking! Let me know what you think. I'm wondering if I should stick to a certain kind of lotion if she is going to be licking it. I don't want to risk anything. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

clueless here, Laurie; I'll have to see if anyone responds with info whether it is good/bad/whatever. I know Koda loves licking my hands after I wash them but also after the gym, after I put lotion on them, whatever.

One of my friends had a cat that developed an allergic reaction after licking her hands when they had lotion on them. So I am always careful about that kind of thing now.
ReplyDeleteThe article I found below says that cocoa butter is not toxic, since it doesn't contain theobramine.

However, I would be concerned about the preservatives that may be in the lotion.
I used to use this cocoa body butter from origins that Gibson just LOVED. He would sit and lick every drop off of my legs while I was getting ready... He seems to be doing just fine ;)
ReplyDeleteoh man, Sammy loves lotion. I used to think it was the scent and the distribution onto my skin changed my scent, but maybe it's a corgi thing. I try not to let him lick it 'cause i was worried about the same thing. Still, he gets in a couple licks and he has never showed any change, ie sickness. I honestly have no idea, but I am somewhat relieved to know it isn't just him!
ReplyDeleteI have Vaseline cocoa butter deep conditioning body lotion, and my dog which is part pitt and part boxer LOVES it, I have to fight her to keep her from licking it all off me as fast as I put it on.
