It's true. My Sadie is a bit of a fatty. Haha. It's a very good thing that the weather is finally getting nicer, because she needs to get to the dog park and run more! I've tried taking her on some runs with me around the neighborhood, but she poops out pretty quickly. Sure, it could be those short little legs...or the fact that she runs like a bunny. I mean, that must be tiring! But still, she needs to get in shape!
I've noticed lately that she has become far too conditioned to the sounds of food in the house. She could literally be passed out on my bed or the couch, in a deep sleep, but if that fridge opens, the ears perk up and off she goes to find out what treat may be making its way into her belly! She doesn't even hesitate. She's off and running.
And if you pick up a bag of chips, watch out! These are her kryptonite! That crinkle of the bag is music to her ears, and she hauls ass, no matter where she is or what she is doing. It's actually rather amusing sometimes.
And of course, Sadie knows the words "Are you hungry?" or "Do you want dinner?" Her ears perk up and she starts panting. And if we are outside for a walk, she speeds up because she knows there is food in her future! Oh Sadie, my little fatty :)
Dexter does the same thing. Except he feels that kibble is beneath him and would rather have my dinner.
ReplyDeleteOh and bonus points for using the phrase "hauls ass" it's one of my favorites and always makes me laugh :)
Hugs to Sadie from me!
haha, Sadie's bff, Gibson, is the same exact way. I ask him, "Are you hungry?" and "Do you want dinner" every day when we are walking to get his attention away from the cat poop he is trying to find.. haha then the actually starts speed walking to get home :)
ReplyDeleteLove the post. Its all so true for all of us I think. Whiskey lives for the phrase "who whats dinner?" Even if its my boyfriend and I talking about what to do for dinner she starts running in cicrles and barking telling everyone she is getting fed. And the walk thing, I do the same thing. Espcially if we go on a long walk I start telling her "who wants her cookie."
ReplyDeleteHahaha I love that all of our dogs are true fatties at heart!!! :)
ReplyDeleteBella is a very picky eater and I'm really glad because nothing's quite as porky as a fatty corgi. I saw some not too long ago and they looked like they had been stuffed into sausage casings.
ReplyDeleteHehe, aren't they all little piggies deep inside :) I know, just take a bag of chips with you on the run, maybe she'll follow you better, haha!
ReplyDeletethat is a corgi for you! they have wonderful hearing for the crinkling of chip bags or cheese bags (Koda's favorite). Of course if you call them, they can't hear that :)
ReplyDeletealways a balancing act with them since they LOVE food so much!
have a good weekend!
betty
Maybe you should have some friends over and open chip bags throughout the house at different intervals. Give her a reason to run room to room. :D
ReplyDeleteMagic is very attuned to all possible sounds in the house that may lead to food. Just curious, has Sadie met the BF yet? Want to know if she has sniffed him over and approved or disapproved . . . .
ReplyDeletehaha. so true. It was really windy here yesterday, and Bailey was hiding under my bed. I went to bake cookies and he run out and sit by me, waiting for me to drop something. Then, done baking cookies bailey's back under the bed (scared of the sound of wind!!), and i decide to eat some cookies and he comes scrambling out.. if i rustle a bag at all, hell come running,e tc!
ReplyDeleteHahaha this is totally a corgi thing I guess :) Our little fatties are too funny!!!
ReplyDeleteNurse Amy, stay tuned! I will post about that sometime soon :)
Hehe. my dog is the same way. A guaranteed way to get her to come back in the house if she gets outside is to tell her to "come eat" One fun way to get her extra exercise, especially if the weather has been too bad for a walk, is to take some of her dinner one kibble at a time, and throw it across the room. She'll race after it, then race back for more. For a bigger fit challenge, I have her do this up and down the stairs. Then as a reward, I put the rest of her dinner in her dish. She has a blast.
