The Night of Two Dinners

As I’ve mentioned before, Sadie and I are living with my aunt and uncle (and their two cats) right now. Things are going great there, and Sadie really loves them both. My aunt is a teacher, so she gets home a lot earlier than I do, which is nice for Sadie...so she doesn’t have to wait as long to go out and eat. Some nights, however, my aunt has things to do after school. Last night was one of those nights. But luckily it was an “early” day at work, and I got home around 6. When I arrived home, Sadie was at the door waiting for me, which meant my aunt stopped home before she went out again. Sadie stays in my room while I’m at work. I’m sure she wouldn’t do anything bad, to the cats or the house, but it just gives the animals their own “alone” time. Plus, it keeps Sadie from eating the cats’ food and/or poop! Haha.

When I walked in, I didn’t see a note or anything from my aunt. I looked at the cats’ bowls, and they were empty. Then I saw that Sadie’s bowl was still on the floor. (We usually pick it up if she is done with eating for the day.) So, I thought no one had been fed. I figured my aunt came home, took Sadie out, and left again. So I fed the cats, and then fed Sadie. Everyone ate like they were starving. I guess I shouldn’t have assumed they hadn’t eaten. Maybe I could have waited for my aunt to come home...but I wasn’t sure what time that would be.

I’m sure you all see where this story is going...my aunt came home and I asked her if she fed the animals before she left. “Of course I did!” Oh, crap. Hahaha. You know Sadie and the cats were thinking, “Man, she’s stupid! Look, if we give her this sad, pathetic face, she’ll think we haven’t eaten! And we’ll get more food!!!!” Yeah, well, it worked. My little chubby corgi got TWO dinners last night. And man did she have to go to the bathroom this morning hahaha. Around 8 am, she decided she would just sit and stare at me until I woke up. Good times.

I’ve asked my aunt to leave a note if another situation like this comes up haha. Just to be on the safe side!

Nicknames and Made Up Words

I always said I would never be one of those people that dressed up their dog or talked baby talk to them. But sadly, I do both of these things. It’s just too hard to resist the urge haha. I don’t dress Sadie up on a daily basis or anything (but she has been known to wear a sweater or other piece of clothing, as evidenced HERE). I know, I know, evil. But seriously, she looks so cute in clothes!! Haha.

I have recently become painfully aware of the fact that I make up words and talk in a completely different voice when I’m talking to Sadie. Why? I have no clue. That cute little face just brings out the loser in me apparently haha. So, I’m wondering if you talk this way to your dog, too? Do you make up words? Do you have cute nicknames for your pup? I’ll share a few of my words and nicknames.

A big one I use is Yummersons. (I use this to describe something that is yummy — duh ha. This is usually said when she is eating breakfast/dinner. For example, “Mmmmm is that yummersons?”) I also use variations of this for other words, such as sleepy sleepertons, tummersons (for tummy), stinkertons, etc. Hahaha writing this out really makes me sound insane. But I promise you, I am sane (for the most part). For some reason these words just come out of me when I’m talking to Sadie. The best part? My uncle now says a lot of them when he talks to Sadie!

As for nicknames, Sadie has quite a few: Sadie Kins, Sader Taters (or just Saders or Taters), Stinkerbelle, Puppy Pants, Monkey...

So, you be the judge: am I insane?!

Frito Feet

I had a dog when I was growing up. She was a German Shepherd/Husky mix. I was always obsessed with the way her feet smelled. Haha yes, weird, I know. But seriously, when we were laying on the bed or the floor or whatever, I’d always smell them. My mom loved the smell, too. We used to call them popcorn feet.

When I adopted Sadie, nothing had changed. I still loved the smell of puppy feet! Except now, I call them Frito Feet. I think they smell more like fritos, which is good because lately I hate the smell of popcorn! They say that smells are very powerful and related to specific memories. This is certainly one of my favorite smells. Others include: my mom’s cooking, morning dew, my mom’s perfume, and crayons.

After my post yesterday, I know I’m not the only one that likes the smell of puppy paws!! By the way, I am glad everyone liked my post yesterday. I was in a bad mood, so I wanted to think of all the things about Sadie that really make me smile. It certainly helped. She can always make me feel better!!

A Few of My Favorite Things...

Things I love:

Waking up to a cold nose on my cheek.

Coming home to a wiggly bunny butt.

Not being able to move in bed because a warm little corgi is laying on my legs.

Wondering where Sadie is when I’m laying on the couch watching TV, and finding her curled up on our bed because she’s just too tired.

Watching Sadie spend five minutes “making her bed” and curling up, and then getting up three seconds later to find a better place to sleep.

The fact that Sadie knows my routine and goes and lays on our bed when I am washing my face before bed.

The smell of puppy paws.

Sadie constantly looking back at me when I’m walking her to make sure I’m still there.

The sound of a squeaky ball squeaking incessantly in the background when I’m talking to my mom on the phone.

Sadie pulling my comforter off of me if I don’t get out of bed quickly enough in the morning.

When Sadie scans the dog park looking at all the humans until she sees me and her face lights up (seriously!).

The cute doggie sighs and moans Sadie makes every time she moves in bed, just to let me know she’s still there.

Unconditional love from the cutest little girl I’ve ever met.

The Reverse Sneeze

The reverse sneeze. That’s the best way to describe it. It happens to Sadie sometimes, mainly when she is laying on her back or if she is overly excited. All of a sudden, it sounds like she is gasping for air. Almost wheezing. It scares the crap out of me. She looks so scared, because she can’t breathe normally. I’ve learned to just try to calm her rather than freak out haha. It does help. It helps her relax, and then they seem to end quicker. But I still don’t understand why this happens. Does it happen to your dog? I’ve told the vet we saw in Boston, and she didn’t seem worried about it. She said it’s common. But it just sounds so horrible! Just wondering if anyone else has seen/heard their dog do the same thing?

Photoshoot

I took some pictures today because the weather was gorgeous! I posted other photos from today over on my photo blog but I also wanted to post some Sadie pics here. As usual, she was my main model :) Enjoy! (These are unedited right now...Just wanted to post them as is for now.) I think I might be getting a bit better at this photography thing???

Sadie enjoyed a nice bunny treat. (She went right for the ears!) Hope you all have a great day, whether you celebrate Easter, Passover, or none of the above!

Someone Was Bored...

Since I’m staying at someone else’s house, I try to make my bed everyday. I never really made it much when it was my own apartment...mainly because I didn’t care haha. Usually when I’m getting ready in the morning, Sadie is laying on my bed. I obviously never want to disturb her, so I tend to make the bed around her. On rare mornings, like yesterday, she lays on the floor and I’m able to make the bed properly. But it’s what happens to the bed when I’m at work that is really amusing...

This is what I came home to yesterday:

This is not how I left my bed hahaha. What kills me the most? The ONE random flip flop. She went under my bed and pulled this out. But she didn’t chew on it. No, it was just on the bed...why? To keep her company? I guess maybe it smells like me, so she likes that. It’s just too funny that she does this (it has happened more than once). Sometimes she even takes clothes out of my hamper, and those are scattered about as well. Oh Sadie, you will never cease to awe me with your cute and weird behaviors!
